all about

David Polk started playing the saxophone at the age of ten. This would lay the foundation for what was to come...His family and friends encouraged him in his new found passion in music. Special thanks needs to be given to Walter Menard of Peacock Jr. High school in Itasca and Dean Olbrecht at Lake Park High School. David’s private instructors were Hobart Grimes, a multi-instrumentalist and Joe Daly, a legendary saxophonist whose past students include David Sanborn and John Klemmer.

In 1978, it was off to North Texas State University for his formal musical education. After one lesson with Joe Daly during Christmas break, his life changed forever when he decided to pursue his musical interest elsewhere. Dave came back to Chicago and joined Juggular, a unique band that fused music with visual artistry. During that time, David opened for major artist such as Dizzy Gillespie, Al Jarreau, Jeff Lorber with Kenny G., The Dixie Dregs, Roy Ayers and Maynard Ferguson. It was at this point David began his writing career.

In 1989 David joined forces with Orchestra 33, a twelve piece group that brings world class musicianship to the stage and has earned great respect not only in Chicago but also throughout the country and beyond. David continues to play with Orchestra 33 today which gives him the opportunity to play with some of Chicago’s most talented musicians. David used this time with Orchestra 33 to pursue his solo career. Ironically David was recruited to become the musical director for the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

David continues his professional musical career in Chicago. In addition to the release of his first two C.D.s “Feel Good” and “Wide Open” the "David Polk Project" celebrated the release of "Superwind", A unique blend of instrumental & vocals, which features the dynamic vocals of Pamela Rose. David continues to freelance in a wide range of entertaining situations, from playing with the Temptations and Martha Reeves at the House Of Blues to performing on several dance singles and an M.T.V. debut. David may seem very familiar to many people who have seen him perform across the country in Such venues as Summerfest in Milwaukee, 2000 Democratic National convention, Budweiser's Christmas ball in St Louis to the grand opening of one of Trump’s casino’s or even a post party for Celion Dion in New York and most recently, opening for Cyndi Lauper back home in Chicago.
